Independent School Standards expect a broad education. Below is how Evolution Education maps study, sport, vocational learning and enrichment to each required area of experience, in plain language for families, schools and inspectors.
Not every learner studies every qualification at once. Personal pathways still show breadth across linguistic, mathematical, scientific, technological, human and social, physical, and aesthetic and creative learning.
1. Linguistic
Examples of evidence: Functional Skills or GCSE English (including online platforms where used), AQA British Values units, Sports Leaders speaking and instructing tasks.
Why it matters: Young people develop speaking, listening, reading and writing through English and by explaining, leading and reflecting in sport and citizenship work.
2. Mathematical
Examples of evidence: Functional Skills or GCSE mathematics, cooking (ratios, measures), Sports Leaders data and timing tasks.
Why it matters: Number is applied to real life, food, sport performance and everyday problem-solving, not only worksheets.
3. Scientific
Examples of evidence: Healthy living and nutrition units, PE life skills, human body and sport science, pathway science such as skin and product knowledge in beauty where studied.
Why it matters: Learners understand bodies, nutrition, health and the physical world through practical science links, not only laboratory lessons.
4. Technological
Examples of evidence: ICT through digital learning platforms, cooking tools and equipment, performance analysis on tablet devices where used, safe use of salon or workplace equipment on vocational pathways.
Why it matters: Technology means tools and problem-solving as well as screens.
5. Human and social
Examples of evidence: King’s Trust, AQA diversity and identity units, British Values, community and careers linked work.
Why it matters: Learners explore how people live, work and belong, including fairness, respect and community.
6. Physical
Examples of evidence: Sports Leaders Levels 1 and 2, Duke of Edinburgh where offered, PE life skills, competitive and recreational sport.
Why it matters: Physical control, fitness, teamwork and leadership are central to our sport-specialist approach.
7. Aesthetic and creative
Examples of evidence: AQA art for wellbeing and self-expression, beauty design and creative making on vocational pathways, branding or kit design tasks where offered.
Why it matters: Creative work supports expression, confidence and balance beside sport and academic study. We expect creative learning in KS3 and KS4 pathways, not only in one year group.
How we keep breadth strong
- Core English and mathematics sit beside qualification pathways such as AQA unit awards, Sports Leaders and vocational strands.
- KS3 Respite and Recovery keeps a broad short-programme curriculum to rebuild engagement.
- KS4 pathways (academic, sports leadership, vocational) still map to all seven experience areas through the wider week.
- Half-term reviews can move a learner between pathway emphasis without losing breadth.
