Purpose
To ensure prompt, effective first aid for students, staff and visitors, and to comply with health and safety duties and Independent School Standards welfare requirements.
Scope
All centres, off-site activities and travel organised by Evolution Education.
Definitions
- **First aider:** a person holding a current appropriate first aid qualification.
- **Appointed person:** a person responsible for taking charge of first aid
arrangements when a first aider is not available (as applicable).
Responsibilities
- The Centre Manager ensures adequate first aid cover, kits and records.
- Designated first aiders provide treatment within their training.
- All staff know how to summon first aid and when to call emergency services.
- Parents and carers are informed of significant injuries or illness without delay.
Procedures
Provision
Adequate numbers of trained first aiders and stocked first aid kits are available during the school day and for organised activities. Kits are checked regularly.
Response
Staff assess the situation, ensure safety, call a first aider, and dial 999 where there is significant harm or doubt. Students are supervised and reassured.
Recording and communication
Treatment is recorded. Parents or carers and, where appropriate, the commissioning school are informed. Head injuries follow heightened vigilance and clear medical advice.
Medication
Administration of medication follows the Supporting Students with Medical Conditions Policy and written parental consent where required.
Named first aiders
Current first aider names and certificate details are held at each centre and available to staff, commissioners and inspectors on request via admin@evolution-sportsgroup.com.
Monitoring
The Leadership Team monitors implementation through learning walks, safeguarding reviews, incident analysis, staff feedback, student voice and commissioner feedback. Findings inform training and school improvement planning.

This policy is reviewed at least annually, or sooner following changes in legislation, statutory guidance, or significant incidents. Next formal review:

Legislation and guidance
This policy has regard to the Education (Independent School Standards)
Regulations 2014, Keeping Children Safe in Education (latest DfE edition), Working Together to Safeguard Children, the Equality Act 2010, the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR, and other DfE statutory and non-statutory guidance relevant to the subject of this policy. Where Independent School registration is completed, this policy will be reviewed against any updated registration conditions and DfE requirements.
