Purpose

To ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare of students, staff, visitors and contractors, and to meet Independent School Standards expectations for premises, welfare and risk management.

Scope

All Evolution Education premises, activities, off-site visits, staff, students, volunteers, contractors and visitors.

Procedures

Premises and equipment

Premises, classrooms, sports areas and equipment are maintained in a safe condition. Defects are reported and remedied promptly. Cleaning, waste and hygiene standards support infection control.

Risk assessment

Significant activities and environments are risk assessed (see Risk Assessment Policy). Controls are communicated to staff and, where appropriate, students.

Fire and emergency

Fire risk assessment, drills, escape routes, assembly points and emergency contacts are maintained. Drills are recorded. Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans are prepared where needed.

Accidents and near misses

All accidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences are recorded, investigated proportionately and reported under RIDDOR where required.

First aid and medical needs

First aid cover is arranged in line with the First Aid Policy. Supporting students with medical conditions is managed under that dedicated policy.

Training

Staff receive induction and refresher training appropriate to their role, including fire awareness and activity-specific safety.

Monitoring

The Leadership Team monitors implementation through learning walks, safeguarding reviews, incident analysis, staff feedback, student voice and commissioner feedback. Findings inform training and school improvement planning.

This policy is reviewed at least annually, or sooner following changes in legislation, statutory guidance, or significant incidents. Next formal review:

Legislation and guidance

This policy has regard to the Education (Independent School Standards)

Regulations 2014, Keeping Children Safe in Education (latest DfE edition), Working Together to Safeguard Children, the Equality Act 2010, the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR, and other DfE statutory and non-statutory guidance relevant to the subject of this policy. Where Independent School registration is completed, this policy will be reviewed against any updated registration conditions and DfE requirements.
