Purpose

To set clear expectations for professional behaviour so that students are kept safe and the reputation and standards of Evolution Education are upheld, in line with KCSIE and Independent School Standards.

All employees, agency staff, volunteers, students on placement and contractors working with children and young people.

Responsibilities

Everyone working for Evolution Education must follow this Code. Leaders model and enforce it. Breaches may lead to disciplinary action and, where appropriate, referral to external agencies.

Procedures

Professional relationships

Staff maintain professional boundaries, treat students with dignity, avoid favouritism, and never form inappropriate relationships. Sexual communication or contact with students is prohibited and will be treated as a safeguarding matter.

Safer working practice

Common-sense safer working practices apply: avoid being alone with a student where practicable; use visible spaces; record physical interventions; follow searching and behaviour policies; use school systems for communication.

Appearance, language and conduct

Staff present professionally, use language appropriate to an education setting, and challenge discriminatory behaviour.

Online and social media

Staff do not befriend or message students on personal social media. School devices and accounts are used for school business.

Alcohol, substances and criminal matters

Staff must not work under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Relevant criminal matters and changes to DBS status must be disclosed.

Reporting

Staff must report safeguarding concerns, allegations and low-level concerns without delay.

Monitoring

The Leadership Team monitors implementation through learning walks, safeguarding reviews, incident analysis, staff feedback, student voice and commissioner feedback. Findings inform training and school improvement planning.

This policy is reviewed at least annually, or sooner following changes in legislation, statutory guidance, or significant incidents. Next formal review:

Legislation and guidance

This policy has regard to the Education (Independent School Standards)

Regulations 2014, Keeping Children Safe in Education (latest DfE edition), Working Together to Safeguard Children, the Equality Act 2010, the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR, and other DfE statutory and non-statutory guidance relevant to the subject of this policy. Where Independent School registration is completed, this policy will be reviewed against any updated registration conditions and DfE requirements.
