What KS4 pathways include

Every route keeps English, mathematics, mentoring and personal development. Qualifications are matched to the learner.

Core learning

English and literacy, mathematics, Functional Skills where appropriate, ICT and digital skills, applied science.

Personal development

PSHE and RSHE, Citizenship themes, emotional health and wellbeing, Behaviour for Learning.

Awards and vocational routes

King's Trust Achieve, Duke of Edinburgh Bronze, Sports Leaders Levels 1 and 2, Youth Sport Trust PE Life Skills Award, FA EE Playmaker and centre vocational strands where offered.

Assessment

Core English and Maths assessment comes from live teaching and/or Purple Ruler, depending on the route accessed, inside the whole-school assessment journey through to exit.

Flexible English and Maths venues

One size does not fit all. Core English and Maths adapt dynamically to student need.

Venue Option A: UR Future (Natasha)

Small-group, teacher-led classroom learning for students ready for structured group dynamics and collaborative learning.

Venue Option B: Focused Learning Zone / FLZ (Purple Ruler)

Specialised Focused Learning Zone support for 1:1, small-step or alternative sensory environment delivery through Purple Ruler under Evolution Education oversight.

Matched to the personal plan

Staff choose and review the venue against engagement, progress and wellbeing. Assessment evidence follows the route each learner is accessing.

Three KS4 routes, each with clear criteria, curriculum focus and ISS suitability mapping.

Academic pathway

For learners ready for structured classroom study and formal qualifications. GCSE English Language, Functional Skills English and Maths, Core Mathematics, STEM, Citizenship, King's Trust Achieve and Duke of Edinburgh Bronze. Keeps post-16 college and apprenticeship pathways open.

Sports pathway

Uses movement and sports leadership as the engagement hook. Sports Leaders Level 1 and 2, sports-contextualised STEM, Citizenship, Digital Skills and practical PE/sports training toward sports and leisure progression.

Vocational pathway

Hands-on modules for learners who need shorter, practical sessions: Vocational Life Skills, Construction, Food and Nutrition Practical, Music Therapy, Careers and practical STEM, with gender-differentiated options matched to interest and need.

Vocational strand options

Vocational learning includes practical construction and creative life-skills strands so engagement and parity stay high across trade and independent living skills.

Vocational (Boys) strand

Construction, practical STEM, sports and vocational activities, with shared English/Maths through Natasha or Purple Ruler FLZ support.

Vocational (Girls) strand

Vocational Life Skills, Food and Nutrition Practical, creative and independent living skills, with shared English/Maths through Natasha or Purple Ruler FLZ support.

Careers sessions, King's Trust where enrolled, and planned post-16 transition sit alongside both strands.

All pathways sit within a calm, structured environment. Every learner has a Key Adult. Personal development, careers guidance and safeguarding run alongside qualifications.

Post-16 progression is planned early, including college, apprenticeships, employment, continued sport pathways, and our sixth form football and education partnership with Elite Coaching Academy where that route is right.
